Crop GIFs online

Remove unwanted borders or focus on part of an animated GIF. Choose a free or preset crop and download the result, with no sign-up.

GIF (up to 50 Mb)

Benefits

  • Crop the image, keep the motion.

Remove empty borders, a distracting sidebar, or extra space around your subject. The GIF cropper applies your selection throughout the animation, so the result keeps moving. Play the source before exporting to make sure the subject stays inside the crop from beginning to end.

  • Choose a shape that fits.

Make a square GIF for a compact layout or use a wider crop to show horizontal movement. Choose an aspect ratio or adjust the crop freely around the content. Keep important labels and gestures visible instead of cutting them off to fit a particular shape.

Animation ideas

  • Product highlights

Frame the important product detail while leaving room for movement throughout the animation.

  • Call-to-action banners

Choose an area that keeps the message readable without unrelated space around it.

  • Interface walkthroughs

Keep the controls needed to explain a task, including any menus that appear during playback.

GIF cropping questions

  • How do I crop an animated GIF?

Upload your GIF, position the crop box over the area you want to keep, and adjust its edges. Play the animation to check the selection, then click Crop and download the result.

  • Will cropping remove the animation?

No. The crop applies throughout the GIF, and the result remains animated. Check the whole sequence: a subject that fits in the first frame may move outside your selection later.

  • Can I crop a GIF to a square?

Yes. Choose the square aspect ratio and position the crop around the action. You can also choose another preset or use Free to adjust the proportions yourself.

  • What is the difference between cropping and resizing?

Cropping removes the area outside your selection. Resizing makes the entire image larger or smaller. For a smaller output width without cutting off content, use the GIF compressor.

  • Can I remove a background or an object?

You can cut away an area at the edge of the image. This is a rectangular crop, not a background remover: it cannot erase an object inside the area you keep or follow a moving subject automatically.

  • Does cropping make the file smaller?

Removing unused image area can reduce the output size, but the result depends on the source and processing. Check the exported file size; use the compressor if you need to meet a specific limit.

  • How do I shorten a GIF instead?

Cropping changes the visible area. To remove time from the beginning or end while keeping the full image, use Trim GIF.

  • Is the GIF cropper free, and what is the upload limit?

It is free to use without registration. Upload one GIF up to 50 MB and download the cropped animation after processing. Your file is uploaded when you apply the edit.

GIF cropping ideas

  • Remove empty borders.

Cut away unused space around a small animation so it occupies more of the available layout. Check every part of the loop before removing a border that a moving element might briefly enter.

  • Square reaction GIFs.

Frame an expression or gesture within a square for a compact message layout. Keep the movement inside the selection rather than centering only on the person's position in the first frame.

  • Product close-ups.

Bring a product detail into focus by removing surrounding scenery. Leave room for rotations, hands, shadows, or an opening lid so the crop does not hide the feature you want to show.

  • Screen-recording details.

Keep the relevant panel and remove the rest of a recorded desktop. Play the sequence to check that menus, tooltips, and the cursor remain visible when they are needed to explain the action.

  • Email image slots.

Reframe an animation for a particular place in a newsletter. Choose a crop that fits the layout while leaving product names or existing captions intact, then check the final file size separately.

  • Website banners.

Use a wide crop when the important movement stays in a horizontal band. Avoid cutting a tall subject just to fill a banner; choose another source if the content cannot fit naturally.

  • Presentation layouts.

Focus on the part of a diagram or recording discussed on the slide. Removing unrelated edges can make the remaining detail easier to read without enlarging the whole animation beyond the available space.

  • Gameplay moments.

Crop around an interaction in a recorded GIF when distant scenery adds little context. Keep useful interface indicators if they explain the event, and check that the action does not leave the selected area.

  • Portfolio previews.

Show a specific component or interaction from a larger prototype recording. Leave enough context to understand the change, but remove the surrounding workspace that would distract from your design.

Features

  • Animated GIF cropping.

Apply one crop area across the animation and download a moving GIF rather than exporting only the currently visible frame.

  • Free crop.

Use the Free aspect setting when the subject needs proportions that do not match a standard square, portrait, or landscape shape.

  • Aspect-ratio presets.

Choose a preset proportion for your crop, then position the selection around the part of the animation you want to keep.

  • Square crops.

Select a square aspect ratio to prepare compact GIFs while keeping the main action within the same width and height.

  • Landscape crops.

Choose a wider frame when the movement runs across the image. Check both ends of the motion before exporting your crop.

  • Portrait crops.

Use a taller selection when the subject and its movement fit a vertical composition without losing important context at the sides.

  • Movable selection.

Reposition the crop over the source image to frame a detail without changing which moment of the animation is shown.

  • Adjustable crop edges.

Resize the selection to keep more or less of the image. Leave space around moving subjects rather than cropping too tightly.

  • Source playback.

Play and pause the animation while checking your composition. A useful crop needs to work beyond the opening frame.

  • Result preview.

Review the processed GIF before saving it, then adjust the crop if an important detail has been removed from view.

  • Output dimensions.

Check the exported width and height in the result details to see how the cropped GIF fits your planned placement.

  • Output file size.

See the processed file size before downloading. Cropping may help reduce it, but a specific saving is not guaranteed.

  • GIF download.

Save the result as an animated GIF after processing and use the new file wherever animated GIF uploads are supported.

  • Free cropper.

Crop a GIF and download the result without a payment step. Files must fit within the stated input size limit.

  • No account required.

Start cropping without registration or login, and download the result without creating an account to finish the process.

  • 50 MB input limit.

Open one animated GIF up to 50 MB. Reduce a larger file before uploading it to the cropper.

  • Browser interface.

Choose and crop a GIF on desktop or mobile without installing editing software. Processing requires an internet connection.

  • Compression shortcut.

Use the Compress GIF link below your result if the cropped animation still needs a smaller width or file size.
